The Spectrum of the Seas cruise is over, and it’s time to share some tips! If you’re considering exploring on your own, avoid joining a group tour for a more flexible experience.
Skip “The Key” Package!
While “The Key” service seems convenient, it often involves more waiting in lines. I booked the 1:30 PM boarding slot, and arrived at 1:40 PM with hardly any queue, boarding directly without a hitch. If you’re traveling with kids and a stroller, the staff will guide you through a faster lane, making the process seamless. No need for “The Key” if you have little ones!
Save on Onboard Internet Costs
Want to stay connected on the ship? Never buy the internet package at full price! Join a WeChat group with fellow passengers to pool together for a better deal. Alternatively, find a seasoned Royal Caribbean traveler—these guests often get an additional 15% discount, bringing the price to roughly 700 CNY. Remember to turn off your SIM card to avoid maritime data charges. Flight mode isn’t always enough—completely disabling it is the safest bet!
Tipping Hacks for Better Service
While onboard tips are automatically included, extra tipping envelopes are provided in your room. If you’d like personalized service—like having cute towel animals made—consider tipping a little extra on the first day. Tipping on the last day isn’t as effective. Tip early, and your steward will go the extra mile throughout your trip.
Drink Package and Beverage Tips
If traveling with a group, you can share a drink package to save money. The staff usually doesn’t strictly enforce the rules, so just make sure you move away after you get a drink to avoid drawing attention. You can bring up to 12 bottles of water per suitcase, and each guest can bring a bottle of wine onboard. Hard liquor is prohibited, but some passengers sneak it in by disguising it in water bottles—though this is at your own risk.
No Need to Bring a Clothesline
There are enough hooks and hangers in the room, so there’s no need to pack a clothesline. If you don’t feel like doing laundry every day, you can hang your clothes in the bathroom—they dry quickly. With busy schedules and late-night shows, hanging your clothes in the bathroom is a great way to save time. By morning, everything will be dry and ready to wear.
Reserve the “Silk Road” Show in Advance
The “Silk Road” performance is incredibly popular, so it’s best to reserve tickets in advance through the external website using your room number and booking reference. Even if you have a reservation, make sure to arrive early on the day of the show. Seats on the lower level are much better, and arriving late might mean losing out on the best spots even with a reservation!
Avoid Peak Times When Disembarking
On disembarkation day, the peak for group tours is between 8-9 AM. If you’re an independent traveler, try disembarking before 8 AM or after 9:30 AM to avoid the crowds. Once you disembark, it’s just a 10-minute walk to the main transit hub—super convenient for onward travel.
